1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Telemetry (MST/PCU) night shift position requiring telemetry reading skills and a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience. Details Acute care hospital setting with a 30-bed Medical Telemetry/PCU unit (three 10-bed units) Patient population includes surgical cases (total hip & knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory lap) and medical cases (MRSA, C-diff, COPD, pneumonia, COVID, suicide attempt, drug/alcohol withdrawal) and telemetry cases (chest pain) Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; nursing aides cover 10-15 patients, and if no aide is available, the RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care Remote Monitor Techs are available, but RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips Stable CPAP and BiPAP patient care is expected; drip titration is not required Charting performed in Cerner EMR 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730) Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday nights) Holiday rotation required to distribute holidays fairly Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to the Multi Care Unit, Pediatric unit (adult MST patients only), and West Campus Med/Surg Tele Low census standby rotation may apply depending on contract terms Requirements Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license currently in hand — pending licenses not accepted Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required; telemetry experience strongly preferred Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips Must be willing to care for both MST and PCU patients Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts prior to offer confirmation A valid driver's license is required for consideration Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license) to qualify for this position Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Additional Information Responsibilities include providing care to a mixed medical, surgical, and telemetry patient population Charge RN manages 50 inpatient beds spanning the MST, Pediatrics, and Acuity Adaptable MCU units May be asked to precept nursing students Orientation includes hospital-wide orientation followed by unit orientation based on individual experience (12-hour orientation) A sterile technique skills test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation — failure on the second attempt results in a 6-month DNU status for CommonSpirit Arizona facilities Any scrub color may be worn except camouflage A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
