Job Description

A well-established, Ambulatory Surgery Center in Marin County is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead clinical operations within a fast-paced surgical environment. This is not a traditional DON role . In addition to nursing leadership responsibilities, this position includes operational and executive-level oversight typically associated with an ASC Administrator role. We are seeking a highly experienced clinical leader who is comfortable balancing hands-on patient care, staff leadership, regulatory compliance, physician relations, and operational management within a collaborative ASC setting.
Important:
This Is a Hybrid Clinical + Operational Leadership Role In addition to traditional DON responsibilities, this role also includes: Working clinical shifts in PACU and OR Ability to Circulate and Scrub cases Oversight of surgeon, anesthesia, and staff scheduling Budgeting and operational oversight Participation in strategic growth initiatives Physician and partner relationship management Oversight of quality, infection control, risk management, and accreditation readiness Participation in Governing Board and Medical Executive Committee meetings Candidates seeking a purely administrative DON role may not find this position to be the right fit. Position Highlights Physician-owned ASC with collaborative culture Leadership role with high visibility and influence Opportunity to shape both clinical and operational performance Combination of executive leadership and hands-on clinical practice Competitive compensation based on experience and clinical capabilities ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership Direct and oversee all nursing operations within the surgery center Ensure compliance with AAAHC, CMS, OSHA, state, and federal regulations Lead quality improvement, infection prevention, and patient safety initiatives Maintain policies and procedures to support safe, efficient patient care Oversee clinical recruitment, retention, onboarding, and staff development Operational Leadership Assist with operational planning and facility management Participate in budget oversight and financial performance initiatives Coordinate staffing and scheduling for nursing, surgeons, and anesthesia providers Support strategic planning, service line development, and physician engagement Maintain strong relationships with physicians, staff, and governing partners Clinical Responsibilities Provide direct patient care support as needed Function in PACU (Pre-Op and Post-Op) Circulate in the OR Scrub experience strongly preferred QualificationsRequired Active California RN license Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in surgery center, perioperative, or acute care setting Strong knowledge of ASC regulatory and accreditation standards Experience with staff management, budgeting, and operational oversight Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and physician relationship skills Preferred ASC leadership experience AAAHC accreditation experience Multi-specialty ASC experience Scrub experience Business or operational management experience Compensation & Benefits $90 - $110 per hour Compensation based on experience and clinical capabilities Leadership growth opportunity Collaborative physician partnership environment The ideal candidate is: A strong perioperative clinical leader Comfortable working both operationally and clinically Organized and highly accountable Experienced in managing competing priorities Able to build strong physician and staff relationships Motivated by growth, quality, and team development Schedule Full-time Monday through Friday Variable hours based on surgical schedule and operational needs
