1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum position at an acute care facility in California, requiring a minimum of 2-3 years of L&D experience and the ability to float between L&D, Postpartum, and NICU. Details Acute care hospital setting with a combined L&D and Postpartum unit Unit includes 7 L&D beds, 4 triage beds, 2 overflow beds, 27 postpartum beds with a 5-bed nursery, and 2 C-section suites with recovery Averages approximately 3 births per day and 1,545 births per year Patient population includes high-risk deliveries of any gestational age, EMT drop-offs, substance abuse/withdrawal, patients with no prenatal care, and a high proportion of Spanish-speaking patients; critically ill patients are transferred to a higher-level facility AWOHNN staffing ratio guidelines are followed
EMR:
Cerner; fetal monitoring via FetalLink (integrated with Cerner) Fetal monitoring system: Phillips 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM-7:30 PM) and night shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM) available; primary posting is days 4 weekend shifts per 4-week scheduling period Call is optional but preferred; candidates should be prepared to discuss availability during the interview L&D nurses are required to float to Postpartum and NICU (grower/feeder patients); Postpartum nurses float to L&D as needed OB and Neonatologist available on-call 24/7 with a 30-minute response time Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7 OB techs on unit to assist with C-sections, deliveries, supply stocking, and patient intake Requirements Active CA RN license (or Compact license) required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced) COVID vaccine required Minimum 2-3 years of L&D experience required Postpartum (PP) experience required for L&D nurses; L&D experience not required for PP-only candidates Ability to circulate in C-section suites required (scrubbing experience not required) Cerner EMR experience preferred STABLE certification preferred Prior travel nursing experience preferred (at least one prior travel contract) A valid driver's license is required for consideration Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Additional Information Orientation consists of 3 floor-specific shifts (12 hours each) Navy scrubs required Holiday coverage required; typically one major and one minor holiday worked alongside permanent staff Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered First-time travelers are not preferred; at least one prior travel contract is strongly encouraged
