The On-Call Nurse provides substitute coverage to deliver health services, including emergency care, medication administration, and student health assessments. This role supports student and staff wellness, maintains health records and regulatory compliance, coordinates care with families and school personnel, and assists with public health reporting, and school health initiatives.Essential Functions:
Assess and provide immediate emergency/non-emergency care to students, staff and Santa Margarita Catholic High School (SMCHS) guests on campus during school hours. Collaborate with school personnel, students and families in the assessment, identification, intervention, referral and follow-up of students in need of medical/behavioral/mental wellness health services. Maintain student health records and adhere to appropriate guidelines regardingHIPPA/FERPA
confidentiality. Assessment and management of medical diagnosed concussion of students with continued follow up, progress assessments online and communication with concussion team and parents. Supervise administration of prescribed medications by physicians and obtain necessary medication forms from parents. Assess health histories and medications needed for retreats and field trips. Comply with state required immunization documentation for all students and communicate with parents regarding California law requirements as they change. Collaborate with OCHD in cases of communicable diseases and possible exclusion from school of students that are not completely immunized against a particular communicable disease, in accordance with the governing authority. Provide student health information to teachers regarding chronic and acute health conditions with the consent of parents and their child and adhere toHIPPA/FERPA
guidelines. Collaborate with the Dean's Office to verify prescribed medications for possible positive drug testing results. Assist Deans Office with confirmation of medically excused absences when appropriate. Request and process student accident reports, file accident claim forms with schools' insurance company and any processing follow-up. Serve as licensed medical professional and student/faculty/staff advocate for health and wellness at school. Work with Human Resources to maintain all employee health and emergency information, including TB documentation. Assess all employee injuries and provide treatment and documentation for workers comp. Perform any other duties assigned by the Assistant Principal.Qualifications/Requirements:

On-call, as needed; hours vary based on staffing needs.Physical Requirements:
Works extensively in an office environment sitting and standing for long periods of time. With repetitive computer, telephone use and needs to have the ability to communicate effectively. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will also be required to; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. On occasion will need to assist with lifting/moving faculty, staff, students from wheelchairs, stretchers, and or beds. The employee could be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
