UCHealth Cardiothoracic Surgery Department About the PositionUCHealth in Colorado Springs is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner with specialized expertise in cardiac or cardiovascular surgery and intensive care management. Join our dedicated, patient-centered team committed to delivering exemplary cardiothoracic care in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care:
Provide comprehensive, compassionate care for cardiothoracic surgery patients, including preoperative assessments, perioperative management, and postoperative follow-up.
Surgical Assistance:
Assist in cardiac surgeries, including performing endoscopic vein harvesting and serving as first assistant when needed.
ICU and Ward Management:
Oversee patient care in the CVICU, hospital floors, and outpatient clinics, ensuring optimal outcomes through diligent monitoring and evaluation.
Clinic Responsibilities:
Conduct two full-day clinics weekly, with flexibility to see additional patients as required.
Operating Room Support:
Rotate through OR coverage Monday through Friday, assisting in surgical procedures and patient stabilization.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
Work closely with surgeons, physicians, intensivists, and healthcare professionals to develop and execute individualized care plans.
Diagnostic Evaluation:
Order, interpret, and assess laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic tests to inform clinical decisions.
Care Planning:
Develop, implement, and document personalized care plans, including medication management and follow-up strategies.
Procedural Skills:
Perform bedside procedures, such as venous harvesting and other interventions tailored to patient needs.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate, timely electronic health records, adhering to organizational and regulatory standards.
Regulatory Compliance:
Prescribe medications and controlled substances in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Professional Development:
Engage in continuing medical education to meet licensure, certification, and organizational requirements.
Adaptability:
Thrive in a high-pressure, dynamic clinical setting, demonstrating flexibility, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
Independence:
Function with autonomous clinical judgment under the supervision of cardiothoracic surgeons and physicians.
Qualifications Education & Certification:
Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing Current Nurse Practitioner license in Colorado Certification through AANP or ANCC as a Nurse Practitioner Board Certified in Acute Care or Family Practice (or relevant specialization) BLS (AHA) certification DEA registration
Experience:
Proven experience in cardiac or cardiovascular surgery and ICU patient management required Prior surgical assistance and bedside procedures preferred
VMS Certification Requirements:
Active certifications:
AANP, ANCC, BLS
(AHA), DEA, and board certification Valid, unrestricted license to practice in

Compensation & Benefits Salary:
Competitive annual compensation ranging from $100,588 to $143,769, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
