1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Blood Cancer Oncology Unit position in Denver, CO, requiring at least 1 year of acute care oncology experience and an active CO or compact RN license. Details 18-bed Blood Cancer Unit in a hospital setting in Denver, CO Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM
  • 7:00 AM 13-week contract Patient ratio of 3-4:1 Day shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse (no patient assignment), 3-5 RNs, and 1 CNA; night shift includes 1 charge nurse (no patient assignment) and 3-5 RNs Equipment used includes telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, and Alaris PCA pumps
EMR:
Meditech Procedures performed on the unit include lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies (with and without conscious sedation), and thoracentesis High volume of medication administration including blood products, electrolyte replacements, and fluid boluses Requirements Active CO or compact RN license required Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start) ONC (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification required Minimum 1 year of recent hospital acute care oncology experience US SSN and DOB required for consideration One professional reference required No gaps in work history of 90 days or more in the past 12 months Additional Information Chemo and biotherapy certification is preferred; nurses without certification will not administer chemo or biotherapy, but will work around hazardous drugs — education is provided for handling excreta Step-down experience is a plus, as the unit cares for highly acute hematology patients and utilizes many standing orders The unit operates with a primary nursing model with limited use of PCTs, emphasizing nurse-led patient care interventions This unit is a 4-time HCA Unit of Distinction award winner (out of 5 eligible years), recognized among 600+ med-surg units nationwide for quality measures including evidence-based practice, falls prevention, CLABSI, CAUTI, and nurse certification Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates accepted First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible; candidates should have demonstrated travel or acute care oncology experience
