About Kids First Health Care Kids First Health Care provides primary pediatric health care and school nursing services in Adams County. Since establishing Colorado's first school-based health center in 1978, we have been committed to keeping our community's most vulnerable and at-risk children healthy, in school, and ready to learn. More information is available at http://kidsfirsthealthcare.org Job purpose The School Nurse works within Westminster Public School (WPS) district schools and is responsible for providing expertise and oversight of school health services and promotion of health education; provide health care to students; serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and healthcare providers to advocate for healthcare of students and a healthy school environment. This position is currently scheduled to work Mon - Fri each week during the school year covering schools/programs for PreK-12th grade students. The work schedule follows the WPS calendar and the salary is based on 40 weeks or 1600 hours of paid time during the year. Duties and Responsibilities School Nursing - District and School Staff
  • Provide training for school staff regarding student health care needs and plan of care.
  • Provide annual training, delegation, and ongoing supervision of unlicensed school personnel in the administration of medication or other special health care procedures.
  • Assess and provide consultation regarding communicable diseases and significant illness/injury.
  • Provide CPR, First Aid, Medication and Standard Precautions training for key school personnel.
  • Provide annual diabetes training and on-going support for diabetes management at school.
  • Assess physical and emotional environment of schools to promote a healthy school environment.
  • Participate in the development of emergency plans to assist students with special health care needs during crises.
  • Collect, interpret and evaluate student health data and state required health-related reporting.
  • Date collection on trainings, delegations, direct care, contacts, accidents and illnesses to improve and support school health services.
  • Serve as a liaison between school, community health resources and state organizations. School Nursing - Students (pre-K to 12th grade) and Families
  • Maintain knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA compliance to ensure student and family confidentiality.
  • Provide health consultation for students with significant health care needs requiring modification or accommodations in the school setting.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Health Care Plans and services for students with disabilities and/or students with significant health issues.
  • Provide direct health care to students and staff for acute injury and illness and chronic health conditions.
  • Conduct health assessments, interpret medical data, and participate in special education, Individualized Education Plan development, including Child Find and 504 accommodations.
  • Provide phone consultation services; triage traumatic injuries and acute medical conditions.
  • Act as a liaison between students, schools, parents, and community health care providers and organizations.
  • Consult with parents for health information related to Individualized Health Care Plans, IEPs, 504s, and other health issues that may impact student's ability to learn.
  • Assist with and provide consultation for school health screening programs (vision, hearing, etc.) and follow-up on select referrals and complex cases.
  • Support and supervise compliance of all students with Colorado state immunization requirements
  • Provide child care consultation and monthly visits for preschool programs per licensing requirements. Qualifications Required
  • RN, BSN, Licensed in the State Colorado
  • Special Services Provider (SSP) License or apply for Initial SSP License within 3 months of hire
  • Certified CPR/First Aid (Heartsaver) instructor, or willingness and ability to become certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Complete "CCHC Provisional Qualification Training" for new Child Care Health Consultants within three months of hire, if not currently a practicing CCHC.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license
  • Fingerprint-based background check as required by state law Preferred
  • One year of school nursing or pediatric nursing experience highly desired Physical requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
