Perioperative care Full Job Description Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) or Circulating RN specializing in orthopedic procedures to join our dynamic surgical team. This vital role involves providing expert nursing care before, during, and after orthopedic surgeries, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through meticulous attention to aseptic technique, patient assessment, and intraoperative support. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the operating room environment, demonstrate proficiency with advanced surgical technologies, and have a strong commitment to patient safety and quality care. Key responsibilities include preparing the operating room for orthopedic procedures, assisting surgeons during complex surgeries such as joint replacements and fracture repairs, managing sterile techniques, and providing comprehensive postoperative care. The role also involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, maintaining accurate medical documentation, and adhering to all safety protocols and regulatory standards. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative orthopedic treatments within a reputable healthcare facility committed to excellence. Responsibilities Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary surgical instruments, implants, and supplies are sterile and ready for orthopedic procedures such as arthroplasties and spinal surgeries. Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, managing equipment like surgical microscopes or specialized orthopedic tools, and maintaining a sterile field. Monitor patient vital signs continuously throughout surgery using advanced monitoring systems; respond promptly to any changes. Apply aseptic techniques rigorously to prevent infections; manage wound dressings and ensure proper specimen collection for laboratory analysis. Support intraoperative tasks including suturing, managing bleeding with appropriate hemostatic agents, and operating specialized equipment such as C-arm fluoroscopy units. Provide postoperative care including pain management, wound assessment, and patient education on recovery protocols. Document all aspects of patient care accurately in electronic health records (EHR systems), ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. Maintain current knowledge of orthopedic surgical procedures, implant technologies, and relevant regulatory standards such as NCQA or ICD coding requirements. Qualifications Valid CT nursing license with current registration; prior OR experience is required. Demonstrated expertise in orthopedic surgery settings Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems), including Epic or Cerner platforms. Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, sterile processing protocols, and infection control standards. Experience working with advanced surgical equipment such as C-arm fluoroscopy units or specialized orthopedic tools. Critical care experience or background in hospital medicine is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9) for accurate documentation; familiarity with CPT coding is advantageous. Ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail; commitment to ongoing professional development in orthopedic nursing practices.
