Job Description:
Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts Coordinates post-implementation evaluation of process, systems, and device strategies as well as examine existing processes and develop new solutions to improve efficiency for Surgical Services. Performs surgical case management with the surgical team, ensuring necessary equipment, personnel, and supplies are available. Other duties as assigned. Builds and maintains surgeon preference cards, ensuring product updates for both open and hold bins. Serves as the consultant/liaison for computer projects involving Surgical Services and information management. Works with Clinical Auditors to audit and correct departmental charges for Surgery, Anesthesia, PACU, Endoscopy, Outpatient Surgical Services, and Central Sterile. Communicates with staff, nurses, vendors, physicians, and administrative personnel regarding needed equipment/items and assist with any issues. Schedules surgical cases as needed and provide assistance to the surgical case scheduler. Provides computer support to Surgery, Anesthesia, PACU, Endoscopy, Outpatient Surgical Services, and Central Sterile departments. Develops reports within Surgical Services to support process improvement, budgetary tracking, procedural recommendations, and other aspects for smooth department operations. Ensures appropriate training and use of electronic records in compliance with policies, procedures, and expectations assuring the staff are competent Assists with and participates in development of policies, procedures, and standards for Surgical Services departments relating to computer hardware and software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Self-directed and works autonomously as well as possesses strength in communication skills, practice knowledge skills, follow-through and computer literate. [Required]
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. [Required]
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. [Required]
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. [Required]
  • Effective communication among employees, and between employees, patients, visitors, and supervisors is essential to ensure quality patient care and to avoid misunderstanding, errors, and miscommunications which could have a detrimental effect on the health, safety, and well-being of patients and co-workers. [Required]
  • Effectively review patient and related medical records, understand nurse and/or physician verbal and written instructions, read labels of medications and hazardous chemicals.
Therefore, to prevent misunderstandings, errors, and miscommunications in the provision of quality patient care and other job-related services, employees in this position are required to have the capability of fluently speaking, reading, and writing English. [Required]
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. [Required]

  • Must have some computer experience, working with a healthcare software computer system is desirable. [Required]
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented environment; to perform duties under pressure and meet deadlines in a timely manner; to work as part of a team as well as to complete assignments independently; to take instruction from supervisors; to exercise problem-solving skills; and to interact with co-workers, supervisors, guests, patients, and the public in a professional and pleasant manner.

  • Knowledge of AORN standards and Perioperative nursing care. [Required]
  • Computer proficiency, including the ability to use various instruments, machines, tools, equipment, and applications such as EPIC, Word, and Excel, and other work aids as necessary to perform job duties is required. [Required]
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. [Required]
  • Ability to use machines, tools, equipment, and work as necessary to perform job duties in the OR. [Required]
  • Understands and supports Corporate Clinical Information System Standards. [Preferred]
  • Previous management skills a plus. [Preferred]
  • Working knowledge of surgical services.

  • Associate's of Nursing [Required]
  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
Work Experience:
  • 2+ years with strong clinical experience of or processes [Required]
  • 2+ years Surgical Services experience [Preferred]
