Job Description:
Assures appropriate traffic control in the operating room. Initiates the incident reporting mechanisms when indicated. Other duties as assigned. Utilizes appropriate channels of communication when initiating change, reporting information or concerns. Promotes and contributes positively to intra and interdepartmental relations. Assists with the orientation of new employees and assumes unit responsibility when delegated by the nursing manager or director. Performs specialized nursing care in all phases of the peri-operative role. Assists with pre-and postoperative assessment of the patient and updates preference cards as needed. Performs surgical counts per policy and prepares operating room setup. Recognizes abnormal diagnostic laboratory data, blood gas values, radiologic data, and knows the implied significance of each. Recognizes emergency situations and reacts efficiently and appropriately. Assures patients' right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality at all times.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills [Required]
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of computerized documentation [Required]
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time [Required]
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate clear communication skills and strong anticipatory skills [Required]
  • Manual dexterity, lifting, pulling, pushing of equipment, heavy instrument sets, and patients [Required]
  • Basic RN Nursing skills [Required]
  • Circulating skills [Required]
  • Scrub skills [Required]
  • Fluent in English language, speaking, reading, writing [Required]
  • Ability to prepare surgical suites with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards [Required]
  • Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment utilized for surgical procedures [Required]
  • Understanding of the procedures being performed and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon [Required]
  • Strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality [Required]
  • Up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards and requirements [Required]
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements [Required]
  • Cognitive, psychomotor, and affective behaviors that demonstrate accountability and responsibility for identifying and meeting the needs of peri-operative patients [Required]
Education:
  • Associate's of Nursing [Required]
  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
Field of Study:
    N/A Work Experience:
    • 1+ of general nursing experience in an acute care setting. [Preferred]
    • 2+ of nursing experience in the required specialty [Preferred]
    • 2+ years circulating and/or scrub experience required in a multi-specialty setting.
