JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A bachelor's degree with experience in administration and/or supervision is preferred but not required.
Certification or Licensure:
Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current licensing by State Board. Registered Nurse is preferred. Certified as Instructor for CPR/First Aid training.
Skills:
Thorough knowledge of nursing procedures, student growth, and development, first aid, and CPR. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of school health nursing including skills for supporting special needs students, conducting hearing and vision, and scoliosis screening. Must have a general knowledge of current trends in school health.
Work Experience:
At least three years of successful experience working in school nursing.
PRIMARY DUTY
This position is responsible for providing oversight to the school nurse program to assure that all school health policies as outlined by the school board, are carried out.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The School Nurse Supervisor will assist assigned nurses in: Maintaining current medication forms Supporting the health and science curricula in their school by conducting in-service training Auditing immunization records Requisitioning supplies as needed Assisting in the scheduling of screenings Requesting equipment and recommending the need for repairs Reviewing individual education plans (IEPs) of special needs students and assisting in the training of staff for special services Meeting periodically with the director of student services to facilitate program changes Participating in IEP and 504 meetings as requested The School Nurse Supervisor will: Attend RESA meetings or other training and share information with all nurses. Meet as needed with the Director of Student Services to facilitate program changes Maintain an understanding of school health programs and current trends in school nursing. Oversees health evaluations and protections for students and staff, and recommends improvements in line with Federal, State, and local health guidelines. Consults with building principals to facilitate completion of annual evaluations of RNs and LPNs. Provide consultation to school administrators regarding student and employee health issues. Plan and implement professional development programs for the nursing staff. Schedule periodic staff meetings with all nurses. Assist in the development of appropriate sections of the school budget. Attend appropriate national, state, and local professional development continuing education programs to stay current with changes in school health practices. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee's supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.
