Job Description
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in the overall leadership, coordination, and management of the nursing department within the skilled nursing facility. This role is responsible for assisting in ensuring the delivery of high-quality resident care, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting clinical staff, and promoting a culture of excellence. The ADON serves as a clinical leader and resource for nursing staff and helps ensure efficient and effective nursing operations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership & Operations- Assists the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing nursing services in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations.
- Supports the implementation and monitoring of clinical programs to ensure quality resident care and positive outcomes.
- Conducts routine rounds to monitor resident care, staff performance, and overall unit operations.
- Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to licensed and unlicensed nursing staff.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and enforcement of nursing policies and procedures.
- Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.
- Assists in survey preparedness and participates in regulatory surveys and follow-up activities.
- Ensures compliance with infection control standards and promotes best practices.
- Acts as the DON in their absence as assigned. Staff Support & Development
- Assists with onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of nursing staff.
- Supports staff performance management, including evaluations, coaching, and corrective actions as needed.
- Promotes staff engagement, retention, and professional development.
- Provides guidance and support to nursing staff to ensure adherence to clinical standards and scope of practice. Documentation & Compliance
- Ensures accurate and timely documentation of resident care, medications, and treatments in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
- Monitors clinical documentation systems for completeness and compliance.
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures adherence to HIPAA regulations.
- Assists with audits and reviews of clinical records to ensure quality and compliance.
- Completes required reports and documentation accurately and timely. Resident Care & Coordination
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care planning and delivery.
- Addresses resident and family concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- May assist with direct resident care as needed within scope of practice. Supply & Resource Oversight
- Oversees the availability and appropriate use of clinical supplies and equipment.
- Collaborates with appropriate departments to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Ensures equipment is maintained, clean, and compliant with infection control standards.
Qualifications:
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the state licensing board.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience in a skilled nursing facility, with prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and clinical standards.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and healthcare software systems.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and clinical documentation requirements.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands for clinical and administrative tasks.
- May be required to assist with resident care, including lifting or repositioning residents.
- Occasionally required to lift or move equipment or supplies up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a nursing facility environment with frequent interaction with residents, families, and staff.
- May require flexibility, including occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call support as needed for operational needs.
Other Requirements:
- Participates in and may conduct company-sponsored training related to resident rights, compliance, and protected health information.
- Monitors and ensures adherence to company policies, procedures, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Upholds and promotes the confidentiality of residents' protected health information and ensures proper communication of privacy standards.
