Job Description
Category Nursing - RN-MS Job Type Contract Step into an engaging medical-surgical/telemetry environment at a large teaching hospital. This contract opportunity offers hands-on nursing experience in a high-acuity setting, supporting patients with acute and chronic diseases, post-surgical needs, and cardiac procedures within a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Schedule Options:
12-hour shifts: 7A-7P or 7P-7A Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule Holiday coverage: One major holiday shift per season
Qualifications & Experience:
Active RN license and BLS required Minimum of 2 years' recent Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience Ability to pass EKG (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency exam ACLS and Medical-Surgical Certification (preferred) Proficiency with cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, IV management, central line care, wound and post-op monitoring, insulin and heparin drips, and advanced clinical assessment Familiarity with EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and various monitoring/med dispensing technology Will consider first-time travelers eager to contribute
Key Responsibilities:
Manage patient ratios typically 1:4-6 with collaborative CNA and supportive interdepartmental teams Deliver comprehensive nursing care for heart failure, A-fib, kidney injury, respiratory conditions (COPD, asthma), sepsis, diabetes, and more Coordinate with hospitalists, intensivists, RTs, and discharge/resource nurses for optimal patient outcomes Perform trach and chest tube care, Foley/IV/PICC procedures, groin and wound care, and discharge education Float to other adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed
Department & Facility Support:
CNAs assist with patient care fundamentals Dedicated unit secretary, resource RNs, and full-time respiratory and hospitalist coverage Central telemetry, advanced patient monitoring, and a robust discharge planning process
