Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Med Surg Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in medical-surgical nursing, with a focus on delivering comprehensive patient care in diverse clinical settings. As a Med Surg RN, you will be responsible for assessing patient needs, administering treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote optimal health outcomes. Responsibilities Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories. Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions and injections, following established protocols and aseptic techniques. Monitor patients closely for signs of acute pain, infection, or deterioration, and respond promptly to emergent situations such as trauma or critical illness. Document all patient interactions and interventions clearly within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with physicians and specialists in areas such as cardiology, ophthalmology, dialysis, and trauma medicine to develop and implement individualized care plans. Assist with diagnostic procedures including laboratory specimen collection, catheterizations, suturing, and wound care. Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, medication administration, and discharge instructions. Maintain infection control standards and ensure the safety of both patients and staff through adherence to hospital protocols. Skills Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for accurate medical documentation. Proficiency in critical care procedures including ventilator management, ICU care, trauma medicine, and acute pain management. Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) for accurate documentation of diagnoses. Skilled in performing IV insertions, phlebotomy, catheter care, and aseptic techniques to prevent infections. Familiarity with specialty areas such as geriatrics, behavioral health, hospice & palliative medicine, and long-term care environments like nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Ability to work effectively in high-pressure settings such as Level I Trauma Centers or emergency rooms while maintaining compassionate patient care. Strong understanding of physiology principles related to patient assessment and diagnostic evaluation across various age groups including pediatrics and neonatal care. Experience with medical terminology relevant to internal medicine, surgical procedures, occupational health, and home & community care services.
