Job Description
Category Nursing - RN-MS Job Type Contract Providing expert nursing care in a busy Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital's medical-surgical telemetry unit, this contract opportunity offers the chance to work with a diverse patient population managing acute and chronic illnesses. The unit consists of 30 beds, operating at full census, and provides specialized care for patients with conditions including heart failure, A-fib, respiratory failure, chronic kidney disease, and post-op cardiac procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver comprehensive assessment and nursing care for med-surg telemetry patients. Manage complex treatments including trach care, chest tubes, insulin/heparin drips, renal and fluid balance. Perform cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for discharge planning and patient education. Provide wound care, Foley catheter management, and IV insertion/care. Utilize EPIC EMR and specialized equipment such as Phillips monitors, glucommander, and PCA devices. Adhere to unit protocols ensuring patient safety and compliance standards.Qualifications & Experience:
Valid RN license. Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical and telemetry nursing experience. BLS certification required; ACLS preferred. Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency certification or willingness to complete EKG competency exam. Proficient in clinical assessment, telemetry interpretation, and critical nursing interventions. Medical-surgical nursing certification is a plus but not mandatory. Ability to work 12-hour shifts with weekend rotation and holiday coverage.Schedule:
12-hour shifts, either 7 AM-7 PM or 7 PM-7 AM.Weekend rotation:
5-6 shifts every 6 weeks. No on-call duties.Work Environment and Support:
Team-oriented culture in a fast-paced, trauma-designated hospital. Support from CNAs, unit secretaries, resource nurses, and specialists including RT and hospitalists available 24/7. Orientation includes 1 day onsite and educational modules. Free parking available on campus.Location Highlight:
