ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To consult with and provide training for teachers and staff concerning various medical conditions and delegated medical procedures and to develop health care plans and provide treatment as ordered by a physician to eligible students with disabilities according to IEP recommendations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Bachelor's Degree preferred Certification/License Valid RN licensure in the State of Georgia preferred or LPN licensure in the State of Georgia Certification in CPR/AED Certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. Presents professional and well-groomed appearance according to District Dress Code. Communicates and collaborates with school personnel, nursing administration, students, and families in a professional manner and with appropriate frequency about school health issues. Attends mandatory Clinic Orientation and Training, Pre-Planning, Professional Learning Days, and other district required trainings. Performs appropriate assessment procedures and interprets assessment results to teachers, parents, and other personnel. Administers nursing services in accordance with the health care plan as stated in the individual education plan and as ordered by physician. Performs on-going evaluation of treatment programs and adapts programs as necessary to maximize results. Recommends and advises schools and teachers regarding appropriate sanitary procedures for specific students. Monitors restrictive diets as directed by physician. Consults with student's physician regarding medical management and therapy suggestions. Maintains records and reports. Lifts, positions, transfers and performs other special duties using lumbar belts as required to meet the needs of moderately intellectually disabled, severely and profoundly intellectually disabled, and orthopedically impaired students. All nursing actions will be in accordance with the scope of practice of the Georgia Board of Nursing and Marietta City Schools policies and procedures. Provides privacy and a caring environment; displays and models respect towards students and others; serves as a student advocate and establishes and communicates clear behavior expectation in the clinic to students and staff. Notifies Lead Nurse of personal absences as required. Develop a substitute nurse folder for reference in the absence of regular school nurse. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services, Principal, and/or Nursing Coordinator.
Physical Demands:
Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds. Dexterity to write on a board, operate a computer, and use other classroom technology. Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching. Clear speech and hearing abilities for effective communication. Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials.
