Job Description

Position Summary The Oncology Clinic Nurse plays a critical role in providing compassionate, high-quality nursing care to hematology and oncology patients in an ambulatory setting. This role involves patient care and clinical support, care coordination and treatment management, with close collaboration amongst the provider and the multidisciplinary oncology care team. Strong oncology clinical judgement and prioritization. Familiarity with oncology treatment pathways and staging. Excellent patient-centered communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, attention to detail, follow-through, and organizational abilities. Experience with Meditech. Education Associates Degree in Nursing

  • Preferred License & Certification Registered Nurse License with State of Practice
  • Required OCN
  • Preferred Basic Life Support (BLS)
Required Core Job Functions Patient Care and Clinical Support:
Provide direct nursing care to oncology patients in an outpatient/clinic setting, which includes but is not limited to comprehensive patient intake, including review of symptoms, vitals, and clinical documentation in the oncology medical record. Chart preparation prior to visits to ensure completion of required labs, imaging, referrals, and prior visit orders. Assist with in-office clinical procedures including lab draws, EKGs, and other provider-directed nursing tasks. Facilitate add-on laboratory orders and STAT testing as clinically indicated. Process and coordinate medical clearance documentation.
Care Coordination & Treatment Management:
Serve as a clinical liaison between providers, pharmacy, pre-certification, and ancillary services to support timely oncology treatment delivery. Monitor treatment schedules to ensure required office visits, labs and testing are completed in alignment with treatment protocols. Ensure appropriate diagnostic and monitoring tests are ordered and completed (e.g. ECHO, DEXA, PFTs, regimen-specific labs).
Communication & Collaboration:
Collaborate with providers and the multidisciplinary care team to address patient care, scheduling, and clinic workflow needs. Coordinate with new patient navigators to ensure required intake documentation is complete prior to initial oncology visits. Manage provider clinic workload communications and assist with patient flow optimization. Serve as a clinical resource for patient portal communications and follow-up.
Administrative & Documentation:
Enter and manage orders for labs, imaging, referrals, and prescriptions per provider direction. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation. Support clinic operations through proactive identification and resolution of scheduling or care coordination gaps.
