Job Summary East Georgia Regional Medical Center is seeking a compassionate, skilled Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery - Nights to join our dedicated maternal-child health team. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care through the complete nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. As an L&D RN, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, fellow nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. You will maintain a supportive, safe, and empathetic environment for expectant mothers, newborns, and their families during one of life's most significant milestones.
Essential Functions & Core Responsibilities Patient-Centered Care :
Coordinate and execute high-quality nursing care aligned with organizational policies, clinical protocols, and evidence-based practices.
Assessment & Documentation :
Perform exhaustive patient assessments, document findings promptly in electronic medical records (EMR), and immediately report status changes to the care team.
Developmental Care :
Utilize comprehensive knowledge of human growth and development to deliver age-appropriate care and patient education.
Medication Administration :
Safely administer prescribed medications, monitor closely for adverse reactions, and document delivery according to professional nursing standards.
Clinical Collaboration :
Assist physicians during complex medical and surgical procedures within your documented scope of clinical competency.
Care Planning :
Partner with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to build, implement, and continuously evaluate individualized patient care plans.
Emergency Response :
Actively participate in life-saving interventions, including CPR and code team protocols, during medical emergencies.
Patient Advocacy :
Protect and advocate for the rights, needs, and preferences of patients throughout their care journey.
Education & Discharge :
Provide actionable health education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and post-discharge recovery.
Infection Control & Safety :

Equipment Operation :
Safely operate and monitor essential medical machinery (e.g., IV pumps, monitors, ventilators).

Engage in ongoing professional education and quality improvement initiatives to advance clinical outcomes and nursing practices.
Educate patients on pregnancy stages, conduct prenatal screenings, prepare families for childbirth, and interpret electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) patterns.
Delivery Assistance :
Support patients during labor, manage medication needs (including induction and pain management), and assist with epidural placement.
Postpartum Recovery :
Monitor maternal physical recovery, assess vital signs, screen for postpartum hemorrhage or postpartum depression, and provide lactation and breastfeeding education.
Newborn & Neonatal Care :
Assess and monitor newborn health metrics, perform routine neonatal examinations, and educate new parents on proper infant care.
Reproductive Health :
Assist with gynecological exams and provide comprehensive education on family planning, fertility, contraception, and prenatal health.
Specialty Care:
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Critical Monitoring :
Continuously evaluate critical vital signs (heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen levels) and monitor for signs of neonatal distress.
Advanced Interventions :
Administer specialized medications, IV fluids, respiratory support, and oxygen therapy to vulnerable neonates.
NICU Equipment & Procedures :
Operate highly specialized NICU medical equipment, insert infant IV lines, and assist with complex procedures like intubation or mechanical ventilation.
Daily Neonatal Care :
Manage specialized feeding protocols (including tube feeding and breast milk support) while providing gentle daily care, including bathing, diapering, and therapeutic positioning. Key Operational Expectations Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance for night shifts. Perform other duties and clinical assignments as requested. Comply fully with all hospital policies, ethical standards, and operational guidelines.
Minimum 1 year of experience in a labor and delivery nursing role Licenses and Certifications RN Licensure (Required): Current Registered Nurse state license in Georgia OR valid Compact/Multistate State Licensure. BCLS (Required): Basic Life Support certification. ACLS (Preferred): Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. PALS (Preferred): Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification. NRP (Preferred): Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
