1 Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CCU/ICU position at a Critical Access Hospital requiring a minimum of 3 years of CCU experience and the ability to manage vents, drips, and RT equipment independently on nights. Details Critical Access Hospital (CAH) acute care setting with a 6-bed CCU unit that flexes to accommodate MedSurg/Peds patients as needed Trauma Level 4 facility Common patient diagnoses include CHF, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, and DKA; providers perform procedures such as central line insertions, thoracentesis, and paracentesis at bedside Nurse-to-patient ratio goal is 1:2 but may be up to 1:4 depending on acuity and MedSurg/Peds census RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable drips include Cardizem, insulin, and norepinephrine RT equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP (V60), Vapotherm, and Hamilton ventilator; on nights and weekends, CCU nurses manage BiPAP, vents, and other RT-related items without dedicated RT coverage CCU nurses are responsible for monitoring telemetry on the unit; nurses cannot leave the area without coverage in place No hospitalist or intensivist in-house; patients are followed by private physicians, with the ER physician responding to emergencies and codes Charge Nurse oversees both MedSurg/Peds and CCU; House Supervisor is based out of the ED and covers the whole hospital Charting system:
MEDITECH
Night shift, 12-hour shifts (3x12), starting at 7 PM 6-week cyclic scheduling; schedule accommodations are considered but block scheduling is not guaranteed Every third weekend required, including Fri/Sat/Sun (flexible to Sat/Sun/Mon if needed) Floating to MedSurg/Peds is required; cross-training to behavioral health and ER is optional but welcomed Requirements Active Iowa (IA) or Compact RN license required Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) Preferred certifications: TNCC, NIHSS, and PALS Minimum 3 years of CCU experience required Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required CAH experience is accepted but not required Experience managing vents, BiPAP, and respiratory therapy equipment required Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility BSN not required Additional Information Orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts (24 hours total) Holiday coverage required — 1 major and 1 minor holiday depending on the season of the contract Scrub colors: grey, black, pink, or white in any combination Candidates should be prepared to participate in and support ongoing unit quality projects and initiatives Med drawer keys are shared among staff; a physical key must be checked out from the Pyxis at the start of each shift and returned at the end — failure to return the key may result to a replacement fee Nurse aides are available on the unit; goal ratios are 1:6 on days and 1:8 on nights, varying by census First-time travelers are not preferred; at least 1 year of prior travel experience is required
