1 Description American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics unit at a Level III trauma facility, requiring an active IA or Compact RN license and at least 1 year of experience. Details Acute care hospital setting with a Level III trauma designation 28-bed Med/Surg Orthopedics unit with an additional 22 overflow beds Patient population includes total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), fractures, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, sepsis, pneumonia, CHF, appendicitis, acute respiratory distress, cholelithiasis, and patients with mental health and/or substance use histories Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with CNAs/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio Common drips include Heparin, IV antibiotics, antithrombotics, and narcotics; RNs are not required to titrate drips Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment Telemetry monitors available at the main nurses station; monitor techs are stationed in the ICU Charting via Epic EMR 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700) Self-scheduling with an every-third-weekend requirement; Friday and Saturday nights are considered the weekend for night shift Floating required to PCU and McDermott (behavioral health) units 13-week contract Requirements Active IA state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted Current BLS certification required; pending certifications are not accepted Minimum 1 year of RN experience required Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify candidate resides at least 50 miles from the facility 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Additional Information Orientation consists of one week of classroom instruction followed by one 12-hour shift on the unit A pass/fail open-book exam on skills learned is administered during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure to pass results in contract termination Unit emphasizes hourly rounding and bedside shift report Candidates should be flexible, self-directed, and comfortable with change in a dynamic environment Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas and refusal to remove them will result to contract termination All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront — additional RTO will not be approved after consideration Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
