Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
(non-exempt) To plan and provide for total patient care through the use of the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient needs. To direct and guide patient teaching, and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, with current Iowa RN license.
BCLS, ACLS
as indicated by the area of responsibility. Successful completion of JCH pharmacology qualifying examination. Experience preferred, but not required.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Reports to unit Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, or House Supervisor.
DIRECT REPORTS
Licensed Practical Nurse; Certified Nursing Assistant; Unit Clerk.
POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Consistently utilizes methods and knowledge to accurately assess all patient systems. Identifies appropriate nursing diagnosis to develop a plan of care that is individualized, timely, and patient-centered. Implements nursing actions safely and consistently with the plan of care. Incorporates patient and family teaching into the assessment and care of each patient. Evaluates outcomes of patient care and teaching. Assessment, planning, and intervention, including teaching and evaluation of patient care are reflected by completed and accurate documentation. Acts as liaison between physicians, care team, the patient, and the family. Serves as a patient advocate, as necessary. Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking skills in prioritization, delegation, decision making, and practicing safety. Attends all required meetings and in-services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
: Works in a well-illuminated, climate-controlled environment. May come in contact with hazardous chemical or treatment modalities. Possibility exists of exposure to communicable diseases. Involvement in inpatient care may result in unavoidable work-related illness or injury. Work environment is comfortable, with minimal exposure to physical hazards. Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use. Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury. Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situations.
