Position Highlights SUMMARY:
The
REC/SDS RN
provides professional nursing services in the assessment, treatment and care of patients in the Same Day Surgery department. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Bachelor's or BSN degree from a four-year college or university school of nursing preferred. Minimum of 1-year clinical experience preferred. Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or
REGISTRATIONS
Licensed as a registered nurse in Iowa and/or meeting the requirements of multi-state licensure required. Iowa Mandatory Reporter training within three months of employment. BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required. All certifications must be acquired within 12 months of employment and must be kept current throughout employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Admits patients to the same day surgery unit & takes necessary steps to prepare the patient for surgical procedure. Analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses/problem focus. Facilitates immediate post-operative 1 & 2 recovery phases. Collects patient health data. Identifies patient needs and /or changes through frequent assessments. Collaborates with care provider to facilitate a successful discharge plan. Identifies expected outcomes/goals individualized to the patient. Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care. Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of the outcomes. Evaluates his/her own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations. Acquires, maintains, and integrates current knowledge in nursing practice. Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others. Decisions and actions on behalf of clients are determined in an ethical manner. Collaborates with the patient, significant others, and health care providers in providing patient care. Utilizes research findings in practice if appropriate. Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care. Ability to function independently under general guidance of the nurse manager and protocols described by the department. Duties require independent action and judgment.
