ROLE OVERVIEW
Provides nursing care and service during the post-operative period, evaluating, integrating and making nursing adjustments pertaining to the patient's condition on a routine and emergency basis. Provides nursing care and procedures relating to assessment, admission and anesthesia blocking for patient care in the pre-operative unit of the Indiana Spine Hospital.
PREREQUISITE EXPERIENCE
Graduate of accredited school of Nursing currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Indiana. ACLS certification or ability to obtain. CPR certification Background experience in pre-op, ICU, PACU, or Critical Care, minimum of one yea Verbal and written communication skills. Proficient at starting IV's preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following list describes the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role many not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here: Admit patients to pre-op/recovery unit and reviews physician orders, assess medical history and present condition and document. Assures patient safety and quality of clinical care. Reviews the surgeons and anesthesiologist's orders for care to include: the administration of medication, parenteral fluids, and treatments such as administering a pregnancy test or EKG. Sets up, operates and/or monitors the use of various systems, monitors and equipment required for the care of patients. Assists in the patient transportation, positioning, patient education. Monitors and assesses patient's condition. Reports any unusual symptoms, occurrences or discrepancies to the Team Lead or Chief Nursing Officer, anesthesiologist, and physician and documents on proper forms. All other functions as assigned for the role of PreOp/PACU RN.
