Maternity Job Description Overview Position Summary:
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner at IU North Hospital's Maternity unit is a full-time role dedicated to supporting the education and professional development of staff within the Maternity Unit. This role utilizes expert practice judgment to enhance the competence and growth of maternity nurses, OB/GYN staff, and learners. The practitioner partners closely with Maternity leadership to deliver onboarding, competency management, education, and role development initiatives that promote clinical excellence, safety, and adherence to evidence-based practices in maternal care. This position will be shared between IU North in Carmel, IN, and IU Fishers in Fishers, IN, providing educational support across both locations. The role plays a vital part in fostering a culture of continuous learning aligned with the IU Health Way and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate onboarding and orientation for new Maternity staff at both IU North and IU Fishers, ensuring a smooth transition into the departments. Manage competency assessments and ongoing professional development for maternity and OB staff across both locations. Develop, coordinate, and deliver targeted educational programs specific to maternal and neonatal care. Support role development initiatives within the Maternity units through education and training activities. Collaborate with Maternity leadership and other stakeholders at both sites to meet departmental and system-wide educational objectives. Promote a culture of inquiry and evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes in maternal care.

Full-Time (1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week)

Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required. Masters Degree of Nursing (MSN) preferred. Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license. Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department/specialty according to patient care policies. Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Two years experience preferred. Experience in maternal care strongly preferred. Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs. Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
