Responsibilities Preoperative Phase:
Conduct patient assessments, including medical history and physical status Verify surgical consent, site, and procedure Educate patients and families about the surgical process and recovery expectations Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery
Postoperative Phase:
Monitor patients in the recovery phase - PACU and Phase 2 Assess vital signs, pain level, and surgical site Administer medications and manage pain control Provide discharge instructions and patient education Recognize and respond to complications
General Duties:
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education Support a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability
Qualifications:
Current Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) license Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS and/or PALS within 3 months of employment Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
Qualifications Education/Certification/License:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current RN license in the State of Indiana. Must possess current BLS and ACLS.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Must be knowledgeable of safe and effective operation of a variety of specialized equipment specific to the perioperative area. Must be able to read and interpret orders. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, families, staff, and physicians. Must be able to calculate figures and amounts.
