Schedule:
12-hour night shifts (19:00-07:00) Three shifts per week Why this opportunity stands out: In this highly independent Emergency Room psychiatric nursing role, you'll work collaboratively while leveraging strong, autonomous clinical judgment. This environment requires and nurtures advanced psychiatric skills, offers exposure to acute crisis situations, and presents you with the chance to make significant impacts on patient outcomes. You'll gain invaluable experience in both direct care and rapid psychiatric evaluation, working side by side with ED physicians who depend on your expertise to guide dispositions or higher levels of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide primary care to high-risk psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department, including medication administration, use of restraints, and de-escalation techniques Conduct comprehensive psych assessments and determine necessary patient disposition (inpatient, discharge, or involuntary hold) Coordinate inpatient placements, safety planning, and necessary patient transport Respond to hospital-wide behavioral emergencies, de-escalating crisis situations and supporting both staff and patients
Desired Qualifications:
Active KS or Compact RN license required BLS certification required Minimum two years of acute psychiatric nursing experience (hospital setting preferred) Proficiency in conducting assessments for psych patients and working with violent or escalated individuals Strong, independent clinical judgment and confident crisis response skills New graduates are not eligible for this position
