Job Description

RN, Staff Nurse Position Summary Responsible for providing primary nursing care to patients undergoing radiation treatment. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience Two years of experience in medical/surgical nursing experience preferred. Previous Oncology nursing experience preferred. Education Graduate of a school of nursing required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Certifications/Licensure RN license in the state of Kentucky. Job Specific Performance Standards The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time. Provides primary nursing care to patients undergoing radiation treatments. Schedules consultations, follow-ups, conducts patient visits, simulations, radiology, and lab procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines. Schedules patients for consultations and office visits with referring and other physicians. Counsels patient on proper use of medications prescribed by the oncologist. Plans and coordinates skin and wound care of patients. Assists and coordinates patient s nutritional support, transportation, financial and spiritual counseling, home health care, and services with other departments and private agencies. Assists Radiation Oncologist with patient procedures. Provides guidance and assistance to patients and families in regard to ongoing therapies. Provides age appropriate (adult and geriatric) assessment and interventions to meet the needs of patients served.
