1. Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 2. Must possess and maintain a valid, unencumbered Nursing License with the State of Louisiana

REPORTS TO

School Nurse Supervisor

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

To enhance student learning by improving their health status through clinical and classroom interventions in partnership with Special Education and school nursing while adhering to required standards

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

1. Conducts weekly visits to each assigned school. 2. Supports and facilitates health education training for school staff. 3. Acts as the primary health resource for individual school programs. 4. Suggests improvements to student health education programs to the School Nurse Supervisor. 5. Evaluates the overall health and developmental needs of students. 6. Analyzes student health and behavior through observation, records, and referrals. 7. Holds conferences with teachers and parents regarding student health as needed. 8. Conducts annual hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings. 9. Follows up on all reported student health issues. 10. Initiates referrals to appropriate healthcare providers or agencies. 11. Provides individual and group counseling on personal hygiene and related topics. 12. Maintains comprehensive records of all school nurse activities. 13. Supports disease control efforts within the school by monitoring student and parent compliance with immunization and disease regulations. 14. Enforces communicable disease policies through inspections, exclusions, readmissions, and reporting. 15. Ensures the school health program is integrated with community health resources. 16. Fosters communication between the school and community health professionals. 17. Collaborates with community agencies to utilize available resources. 18. Fulfills other duties designated by the School Nurse Supervisor and School Nurse Coordinator. Any work to be performed outside of an employee's job duties and responsibilities shall require the employee to (1) submit a written description of the services to be performed and the estimated time to complete the task, which shall be submitted to the employee's immediate supervisor prior to commencing such services, (2) obtain the prior written approval of the employee's immediate supervisor, and (3) obtain supplemental, written authority from the employee's immediate supervisor before exceeding the initial estimated time for performing such services. Such employee shall submit a completed form refl ecting the services actually provided and the time spent for each item, rounded to the nearest one-tenth of an hour, within seven (7) calendar days of performing such services.
