Job Description

The Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing the medical and nursing needs of 6 clients in a therapeutic group home setting. The RN ensures that each client's health needs are assessed, monitored, documented, and coordinated in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, Medicaid requirements, and facility policies. Primary Responsibilities The RN's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Complete a nursing assessment within 24 hours of each client's admission. Identify and assess clients for medical, dental, psychiatric, and physical health needs. Establish and maintain a system for the administration, supervision, documentation, and monitoring of client medications and medical care needs. Review all medical treatment orders and ensure orders are implemented as directed. Administer medications when applicable and monitor clients' responses to medications. Train staff on medication procedures, medication safety, and potential side effects of medications, including psychotropic medications. Provide education to clients and staff regarding medications, health concerns, hygiene, wellness, and other medical issues as needed. Report to the Supervising Practitioner as necessary regarding medical, psychiatric, physical treatment, or medication-related concerns. Serve as an active member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Monitor and supervise staff who provide nursing-related care or services to clients. Ensure nursing documentation is accurate, timely, and maintained in accordance with facility policy and regulatory standards. Abide by all applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, licensing standards, and professional nursing requirements. Qualifications Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Louisiana. Experience working with adolescents, behavioral health, psychiatric care, residential care, or group home settings preferred. Knowledge of psychotropic medications, medication administration, and behavioral health treatment preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, clients, families, physicians, and treatment team members. Must pass required background checks, drug screen, and other employment requirements. Required Skills Strong clinical judgment. Ability to recognize medical or psychiatric concerns requiring immediate attention. Accurate documentation skills. Ability to train and supervise direct care staff. Professional, calm, and ethical decision-making. Knowledge of medication safety and client health monitoring.
