Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
: The Registered Nurse (RN) in Interventional Pain Management provides high-quality, coordinated and patient-centered nursing care to patients undergoing interventional pain procedures (e.g., epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablations). This role emphasizes patient assessment, procedural readiness, recovery monitoring, and education focused on pain control and functional improvement.
PRE-PROCEDURE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:
  • Conduct focused assessments related to chronic pain conditions and comorbidities
  • Verify procedure, consent, correct site, and patient identity
  • Review imaging, labs, medication history (especially anticoagulants, opioids)
  • Ensure proper medication holds (e.g., blood thinners) per protocol
  • Start IV access for sedation or medications as indicated
  • Administer pre‑procedure medications (anxiolytics, analgesics)
  • Educate patients on procedure expectations, risks, and recovery timeline
  • Coordinate with provider and procedural team for efficiency and safety
INTRA-PROCEDURE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist physicians during interventional procedures (e.g., epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablations) Maintain sterile field and adhere to infection control standards Monitor patient status, including vital signs and comfort level Administer medications as ordered (including sedation where applicable) Ensure proper documentation of medications, supplies, and intra‑procedure events
POST-PROCEDURE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:
  • Monitor patients following minimally invasive pain procedures
  • Assess airway, level of consciousness, vital signs, and pain levels
  • Evaluate procedure effectiveness and changes in pain symptoms
  • Monitor for complications (e.g., bleeding, infection, nerve symptoms, hypotension)
  • Administer post‑procedure medications (analgesics, antiemetics)
  • Ensure safe recovery from sedation if used
  • Provide discharge readiness assessment and clearance
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Active RN license in the state of Louisiana
  • ADN or BSN degree
  • Current BLS certification
  • ACLS required for sedation cases
  • 2-4 years of relevant clinical experience in pain management, PACU, or procedural nursing(preferred)
  • Experience managing chronic pain patients and opioid therapy considerations (preferred)
  • Familiarity with sedation protocols and recovery monitoring
  • Must be able to act cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member
  • Strong clinical, interpersonal and communication skills Clinical Care
  • Administer analgesics and supportive medications per protocol
  • Perform patient assessments before, during, and after treatment
  • Monitor for adverse reactions and manage treatment-related side effects
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EHR
  • Manage IV access according to standards of care Patient Education & Support
  • Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, side effects, symptom management, and self-care
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families
  • Promote patient safety, comfort, and dignity at all times Care Coordination
  • Collaborate with Physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and other care team members
  • Coordinate laboratory testing, imaging, referrals, and follow-up appointments
  • Participate in care planning and multidisciplinary team discussions Quality & Safety
  • Adhere to nursing standards, infection control, and safety protocols
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and clinic policies
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing education Additional Office Duties and Responsibilities
  • Process medication refill requests in accordance with Provider instructions and clinic policies
  • Complete and coordinate prior authorizations for medications, procedures, imaging studies, and other services
  • Schedule and coordinate diagnostic imaging, procedures, surgeries and specialty referrals.
  • Coordinate patient care with hospitals, specialist, pharmacies, home health agencies and other healthcare provider.
  • Perform other clinical, administrative, and office duties as assigned to support patient care and clinic operations.

  • Outpatient Pain Management clinic or ambulatory surgery centers
  • Fast-paced procedural setting with high patient turnover
  • Prolonged standing, lifting, and handling of medical equipment may be required
  • Exposure to biohazard materials, fluoroscopy, sterile fields, and minor surgical procedures (with proper safety measures)
Pay:
$30.00 - $45.00 per hour
