Administer medication and monitor students who require medication in the school setting.

Monitor mandated immunizations and exclude students who do not meet state and local requirements.

Provide acute and emergency care in cases of injury or sudden illness for students as well as staff.

Ensure a safe school environment through prevention and control of disease.

Counsel students, parents, and school personnel.

Keep and maintain students' permanent health records. Share pertinent information with teachers/staff regarding students' health to the extent that the law permits. Obtain parent permission through parent signing of "Release of Medical Information" form.

Organize and implement state mandated programs.

Prepare written reports as required/requested.

Participate in special needs evaluation teams when needed.

Administrative responsibilities such as: Order and maintain all health supplies.

Arrange for maintenance of all test equipment.

Assist administration in evaluating facilities should a health problem arise.

Follow up on long term illnesses.

Conduct daily absence telephone contacts. Attend workshops or seminars as required by the Department of Public Health.

Prepare an annual budget for supplies, equipment, and services and submit to building principal.

Report communicable diseases to the board of health.

Assist school physician with mandated physical examinations.

Assess and evaluate students' health.

Provide skilled nursing care and case management for children with special health care needs (includes regular and special education students).Assume responsibility for continuing education and professional development.

Assume responsibilities for in-service programs for school personnel regarding health related issues, first aid, EPI-pen training, and OSHA training.

Share coverage of nursing duties in the absence of other nurse and during lunch.

Compensation will be in accordance with the salary scale outlined in the Acushnet Teachers Association collective bargaining agreement.
