An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join the Chemotherapy team at Dorset County Hospital. Currently Chemotherapy is delivered on site and in the community setting. You would be part of a dynamic, friendly team with plenty of opportunities to develop skills and education in this rewarding oncology setting. The Chemotherapy service is led by a Senior Sister who is supported by her deputy's. We work closely with the Systemic Anti
  • Cancer Treatment Clinical Nurse Specialist and her community team to provide an extended service.
The oncology and haematology service consists of Specialist Clinical Nurses who work closely with the Consultants and the Chemotherapy Nurses. Main duties of the job The candidate ideally will be Chemotherapy trained with a genuine interest in caring for patients with cancer. You should have a sound knowledge base of oncology and/or haemato-oncology and this will ideally be underpinned by an appropriate academic qualification. However, candidates who demonstrate a true interest in the specialty are encouraged to apply and full training will be given. Y ou must possess excellent communication skills and will ideally be competent at venepuncture and cannulation although this is not essential. Qualifications and experience in administering chemotherapy would be advantageous to the applicant but training can be given to meet this need. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria Registered Nurse Desirable criteria Evidence of CPD Recognised cytotoxic chemotherapy course and/or recognised oncology/haematology course or willing to attend
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria Significant & recent post registration experience in general medicine & surgery, elderly care, A/E, Critical Care, Gynaecology Desirable criteria Experience of care of the immune-compromised patient Significant & recent post registration experience in care of patients receiving chemotherapy Significant & recent post registration experience in care of Hickman & PICC lines Understanding of professional nursing issues
