In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, ensuring their safety, comfort, and progress towards recovery. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a deep understanding of psychiatric conditions, and a commitment to delivering patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary environment. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients across diverse settings, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and community programs. Duties Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations, vital signs, and physical evaluations. Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with psychiatrists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Administer medications accurately, including injections and IV infusions, following prescribed protocols and safety standards. Monitor patients for adverse reactions or behavioral changes, intervening promptly to ensure safety. Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques during acute episodes or behavioral disturbances. Document all patient interactions and clinical observations accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic. Educate patients and their families about treatment plans, medication management, and coping strategies. Support discharge planning by coordinating follow-up care and community resources. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols to safeguard patient confidentiality and safety. Participate in ongoing training related to trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, dementia care, or other specialized areas as needed. Skills Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state certification. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in behavioral health settings. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic for documentation and patient management. Knowledge of psychiatric medications including psychotropics and injection administration techniques. Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies and de-escalation methods. Strong assessment skills encompassing mental health evaluations and physiological monitoring. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams across inpatient, outpatient, or community environments. Excellent communication skills tailored to diverse populations including children, geriatrics, or individuals with complex needs. Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and best practices in acute pain management or hospice settings. Competence in infection control practices relevant to psychiatric nursing environments.
