  • Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, provides direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department, functioning independently and as part of the ED team.
Requires strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions, care plans, and patient goals.
  • Provide patient care per standards, protocols, and policies; promote patient dignity and teach patients/families.
  • Triage and perform initial and ongoing assessments; prioritize and delegate care appropriately.
  • Document care, interventions, responses, and provide thorough handoffs to the healthcare team.
  • Administer medications and IV therapy safely per orders and protocols.
  • Assess and manage patient pain; reassess effectiveness and notify physicians as needed.
  • Identify and report suspected abuse; initiate safety plans and complete mandated reporting.
  • Collect and document forensic evidence and maintain chain of custody per policy.
  • Recognize and respond to disaster procedures, violent behavior risks, and initiate non-violent interventions (e.g., Code 100).
  • Interpret labs/diagnostics and notify physicians of significant changes in a timely manner.
  • Manage vasoactive drips, recognize arrhythmias, and initiate/document thrombolytic/anticoagulation therapy per protocols.
  • Provide care for intubated patients including suctioning, troubleshooting and weaning; interpret ABGs and pulse oximetry.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and act as preceptor/instructor as appropriate.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Exerts 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Frequently reaches, handles, and feels; occasionally stoops and kneels; distinguishes colors.
BEHAVIORAL ATTRIBUTES

QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • AS in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 3-5 years ED experience preferred.
MINIMUM LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Current MA RN license required.
  • ACLS upon hire OR active BLS with
AHA ACLS
obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • AHA PALS
    within six (6) months of hire.
  • TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred.
