Per diem hours are also available!!SUMMARY

The RN provides nursing care to sick students. Assesses student complaints, gives medications as ordered and handles specific responsibilities assigned. Provides support to parents and staff. Takes all concerns seriously and responds appropriately.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESMaintains current licensureDispenses medications as necessaryProvides nursing care to students in the Health Center as dictated by the situationMaintains accurate notes and provides precise reportsAssumes responsibility for portions of the medication procedure:
  • Updating prescriptions from doctors every six months and medication orders annually
  • Keeps medication sheets up to date
  • Implements new MD orders and changes as needed
  • Knowledge and understanding of the side effects of all medications dispensed
  • Keeps accurate records and schedules lab tests on individual students according to medical protocoland as ordered by physicians
  • Provides staff with pertinent information on health-related issues.
Orients and trains Residential Life Skills instructors, educational, and vocational staff to the medication proceduresper DPH guidelinesNotifies Director of Health Services or covering supervisor of any emergency medical situationsas they occur and follows the protocol for emergency care on or off campusImplements and monitors diet programs for those students necessitating weight controlProvides emergency first aid for students and personnelAssumes the responsibilities of the Director in his/her absenceMay have specific responsibilities assigned i.e. medications, keeping current the prescriptions,monitoring charts, and follow up on medications returned after school vacations, etc.

Documents accurately and completely on the following, but not limited to: clinic log, nurses notes, communications log, phone logreplenishes first aid boxes as necessaryhelps verify med sheet monthlyLogs in medication received from pharmacy in appropriate file.

Logs in and counts medications received from students family in appropriate fileAttends departments meetingsKeeps work area clean, stocked and safeAccepts responsibility to participate in the daily count of controlled substance on hand withon-coming nurse.

Monitors and charts BP, P, and weights monthlyParticipates in monthly orientationTracks completion of annual physical exams as required by EECTracks immunizations to ensure they are kept up to dateChecks and recounts all medications that are packed for a home visitPrepares medical summaries for IEP and updates as neededRegular attendance and promptly reports to work at the beginning of the scheduled shift are essentialfunctions of this positionUpholds the mission and corporate values of St. Colettas and Cardinal Cushing Schools of Mass., Inc.

Completes other assignments as deemed appropriate by the Director/covering supervisor.
