Job Description

CLINICAL NURSE II JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Nurse II is a competent advancing registered professional nurse who utilizes the nursing process to ensure high quality patient care to the patient population served according to the Plan for the Provision of Nurse Care and Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
Coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team members to reach patient goals/outcomes.

Complies with all policies and procedures in providing patient care, and coordinates nursing care for a designated group of patients.

Participates in activities for continuing education, professional development, and staff development such as precepting new employees and serving on Nursing or unit committees.

Participates in unit level performance improvement activities.

Functions with a focus on patient safety and customer service.

The Staff Nurse II with appropriate competencies may serve as afterhours Supervisor, and Transport patients according to policy.

May also serve as Charge Nurse and precept new employees.

Assessment, planning, implementing, evaluation, customer service, patient advocacy, delegation, effective communication, teambuilding.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements Graduate of an NLN accredited school of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferredLicensure, Certification and RegistrationCurrent license to practice in the State of Maryland as a Registered Nurse.

Current CPR.PEARS or PALS required or within 1 year of hire. Work Orientation and Experience Minimum of one (1) year pediatric nursing experience with BSN or two (2) years of pediatric nursing experience with AA Nursing.

Knowledge of and ability to perform duties in accordance with the NursePractice Act, the ANA Code of Ethics, and the ANA Professional Standards of Practice & Performance Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrates excellent customer service skillsInterpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectivelyCritical thinking and delegation skills which ensure accountabilityTeam orientedComputer proficiencyOrganization and time management skillsAbility to position patients, lift 25 pounds, walk, run, sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach, push, pull, demonstrate manual dexterity, and have visual and auditory ability to do this job.

Experience with pediatric rehabilitation, psychiatry, neurobehavioral/developmentally/emotionally impaired patients, or in a nursery, neonatal or pediatric intensive care as applicable, is preferred.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Supervision Received Reports directly to the Nurse Manager. Supervision Exercised No direct line supervision. Coaches and provides clinical direction and guidance for Staff Nurse I's, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Patient Care Assistants
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Directly interfaces daily with patients, visitors, families, other health care team and health system staff.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED
Operates patient care equipment and utilizes computers
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases requiring the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional stress due to emergency situations or multiple demands. This job description identifies the general nature and level of work to be performed.
