Job Requirements Registered Nurse (RN), Senior Clinical Nurse II, Labor & Delivery Full time
Rotating:
7am-7:30pm for 3 weeks followed by 7pm - 7:30am for 3 weeks $15k Sign-on Bonus; restrictions may apply I. General Summary This role is designed for the nurse who has achieved expertise and leadership in the clinical and professional role. Leads and evaluates evidence based practice, actively participates and/or leads organizational initiatives, mentors and coaches nurses and other disciplines, exemplifies the role of the professional nurse and demonstrates active involvement in clinical and professional nursing beyond the walls of the unit and/or organization. Utilizes the institution's care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level. Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance. Is accountable to hold to the Service Standards and to the Nursing Mission, Vision and Values. II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. Clinical Practice:
1. Advances clinical practice in the unit and beyond through translation of evidence into practice. 2. Serves as clinical expert and professional resource for the nurses beyond the unit level; mentors and coaches other nurses to advance in their development. 3. Provides nursing leadership in the development and implementation of patient population/organizational level evidence based protocols/procedures. 4. Develops CNI, CNII, and SCNIs to effectively function in unit based roles. 5. Advances excellence in collaboration with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care on the patient's continuum; models independent advocacy for patient/family needs. 6. Enhances practice consistent with division/organizational operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient centered care. Professional Development:
1. Actively engaged in advancing nursing practice and care delivery beyond the unit level. 2. Mentors and coaches unit leaders or those assuming leadership roles to achieve and maintain competency required for the patient population served. 3. Develops, implements, and evaluates unit based staff development activities beyond the unit level. 4. Demonstrates the ability to serve as trained preceptor and coaches CNIs, CNIIs, and SCNIs beyond the unit level. 5. Leads development, implementation, and evaluation of education activities beyond the unit level. 6. Completes CE's on an annual basis based on facility minimum requirements. 7. Active member of a professional organization, attends at least one meeting annually. Service Quality/Safety:
1. Analyze and interpret organizational level outcomes associated with National Hospital Quality Measures, National Patient Safety Goals, Quality Indicators, Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators and Facility Annual Operating Plan. 2. Develops, implements, and evaluates organizational efforts to improve quality, safety, service and satisfaction measures. 3. Provides unit leadership and produces some or all elements of research/EBP/QI beyond the unit level. 4. Ensures high quality, safe and efficient, patient centered care with focus on exceeding service expectations beyond the unit level 5. Participates in the evaluation and improvement of compliance with regulatory requirements at the organizational level. Leads activities at the unit level. Patient Safety:
1. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. 2. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority. 3. Implements policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently in the performance of assigned duties. 4. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members. 5. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge. 6. Participates in hospital, departmental and/or unit patient safety initiatives Operations:
1. Provides leadership in the development of teamwork beyond the unit level. 2. Supports SCNI in leadership of unit briefings/staff meetings as directed by the unit manager. 3. Leads and fully participates in shared governance structure beyond the unit level. 4. Participates in strategic initiatives and external activities for recruitment and retention of staff. 5. Provides nurse manager support in the evaluation of CNIs, CNIIs, SCNI and fellow SCNIIs. Qualifications 1. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. 2. BSN with specialty certification or Master Degree in a health related field required. 3. Current AHA BLS certification required. 4. Must meet all unit specific certification requirements (ACLS, PAL, NRP) 5. Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting. Work Experience Required Skills and Experience Prior experience in Labor & Delivery is required. Orientation based on experience level and determined by unit. Regardless of experience, all new RN team members will be required to complete the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Hospital Breastfeeding Policy Training Program in addition to six hours of hands-on lactation education. If not STABLE certified, will require taking STABLE class Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelors preferred. Currently licensed as an RN in the State of Maryland. Certification in BCLS and NRP required. If not NRP certified, it must be obtained within 60 days of hire. C-EFM required and if not already certified must obtain within 12-18 months after hire. Benefits Pay Range:
