The registered nurse will be responsible for independently providing skilled nursing care for patients undergoing minimally invasive in-office vascular procedures throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative and PACU settings and assessment of office visit patients.
Education/Qualifications:
Valid registered nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland from an accredited School of nursing required ADN required, BSN preferred 2 years prior IR, ICU, ER or PACU experience preferred CPR, BLS and ACLS required Conscious sedation certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
High level of clinical competency including strong knowledge of cardiac monitoring with ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmias, hemodynamic monitoring and emergency response capabilities Venipuncture and IV placement skills required Strong communication and interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Provides proficient direct nursing care for patients during pre-op, intra-op, PACU, and office visits Critically analyzes patient status completing necessary assessments and chart review to determine readiness for scheduled procedure Performs appropriate and complete documentation of all assessments including vital signs, level of responsiveness and any changes in patient condition before, during and after the procedure Responsible for obtaining intravenous access, EKGs and bloodwork as indicated Administers and titrates conscious sedation medications under direction of physician and monitors patient progress during and after receiving conscious sedation with the knowledge to render appropriate emergency care if needed Rapidly and efficiently responds to any changes in the patient's condition, anticipates any potential problems, and plans appropriate interventions Accurately notifies physician of abnormal findings Provides pre-procedure instructions/education and post-procedure discharge instructions to patients and their families Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care Contributes to the achievement of established departmental goals and objectives and adheres to department policies and procedures Maintains a sterile environment in procedure room Performs skilled tasks required during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to administration of IV therapy, medication management, wound care, documentation of intake and output Monitors hemodynamic status, maintaining venous lines throughout procedure and provides skilled assessment of cardiac status Please note that this job description is not exhaustive and additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Must be willing to travel to satellite offices in DC and Waldorf, MD as needed
