Job Description

During internship:

All duties and responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provider within the scope of practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) until certification and credentialing are successfully completed. Work collaboratively in a team environment. Collaborate with CRNA to prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations. Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan with the CRNA and Anesthesiologist. Contribute to appropriate perioperative anesthesia care. Contribute to and monitor appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation. Contribute to postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies. Participate in ongoing projects. Support perioperative providers as appropriate. Other duties or projects as assigned. Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines. This position involves radiation exposure and the requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to fulfill required weekday, weekend and holiday obligations. Must be self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently, and exhibit excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Once credentialing and privileging have been achieved:

Provide anesthesia and anesthesia related care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic and/or surgical procedures to all patients regardless of age under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, working collaboratively in a team environment. Prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations. Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan with the anesthesiologist. Initiate and maintain appropriate perioperative anesthesia care. Maintain appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation. Complete postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies. Participate in ongoing projects. Support perioperative providers. Other duties or projects as assigned. Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines. Maintain licensure, certification, credentialing, and current BLS and ACLS or PALS status at all times. This position requires radiation exposure and the requirement to wear the appropriate (PPE) personal protective equipment. Must be able to fulfill required weekday, weekend and holiday obligations. Must be self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently, and demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Intern Required Qualifications•Current and accurate resume and application must be completed.

Minimum of a Master degree with graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program on or before 06/01/2027.Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

Current ACLS and BLS certification.

Ability to wear appropriate (PPE) personal protective equipment including but not limited to lead vests and aprons, powered air purifying respirators (PAPR) and N-95 masks.

Required Qualifications to progress to New Graduate CRNA•This is a preparatory position for a Michigan Medicine staff CRNA. An Intern will be transitioned to a credentialed and privileged new graduate staff CRNA position if all the following criteria have been met by the
Intern:
Successful completion of the National Certification Exam (NCE) - within 45 days of graduating from an accredited CRNA program. Failure to successfully complete and pass NCE exam within 45 days of graduating from an accredited CRNA program, will result in termination of Intern position and will not progress to staff CRNA position.
