This vital role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a medical-surgical setting, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through expert assessment, intervention, and education. Responsibilities Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to determine care needs. Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, suturing, and medication administration, following established protocols and safety standards. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document patient information meticulously and maintain comprehensive medical records. Monitor patients' conditions closely, responding promptly to changes in status with appropriate interventions such as airway management or acute pain management. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicians, therapists, and case managers—to develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with best practices and regulatory standards like NCQA standards. Provide patient education on health management, discharge instructions, and post-treatment care to promote recovery and prevent complications. Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures such as phlebotomy, catheterization, or specimen collection to ensure infection control. Support patients across various settings including hospital units, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, or home care environments. Demonstrate proficiency in specialized areas such as trauma medicine at Level I or II trauma centers, ICU or PICU experience, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities or memory care needs. Experience Proven experience in medical-surgical nursing within acute care settings is required; ICU or emergency room experience is highly valued. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation and clinical workflows. Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP), or behavioral health is preferred. Familiarity with advanced procedures like cardiac catheterization, dialysis management, ostomy care, or ventilator support enhances candidacy. Knowledge of infection control protocols, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for procedures, and laboratory experience contribute to effective clinical practice. Prior experience in trauma medicine at Level I or II trauma centers or teaching hospitals demonstrates capability to handle high-acuity cases confidently. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) are required for qualifying candidates.
