Band 5 Specialist School Nurse - Farnham
Job IntroductionWe are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Nurse to oversee the healthcare provision for children and young people aged 2-19 with severe, profound, and multiple learning and physical difficulties.
In this rewarding role, you will offer expert training, guidance, and support to school staff, parents, and carers—ensuring the best possible care for every child.
You will be part of a team supporting the senior school nurse and assistant practitioner within your team, helping to create a collaborative, nurturing environment where everyone can thriveBaseThis role is based at Ridgeway School in Farnham.
Main ResponsibilitiesDeliver safe, high-quality, child-centred nursing care, including medication oversight, tracheostomy and PEG care, and emergency response.
Assess health needs, make informed clinical decisions, and contribute to safeguarding and multi-agency work.
Communicate effectively with children, families, and professionals, using alternative communication methods where needed.
Develop and review personalised care plans and empower families in managing health needs.
Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure safe use of medical equipment.
Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to school staff and students.
Support service improvement through audit, evaluation, and evidence-based practice.
Work autonomously while upholding high professional standards across the school nursing service.
Ideal CandidateEssentialRGN and or RSCN with child and/or learning disability experienceExperience of working with children with additional needsGood working knowledge of Child Protection policy & proceduresClear understanding of community health servicesAble to communicate effectivelyClear, concise written & oral communicationAble to work autonomously & prioritise own work effectivelyDesirableSchool nurse degree, diplomaExperience of working with children with complex health needsPrevious working experience in a special school settingExperience of initiating & participating in clinical auditsOther requirements: The post holder must be a car driver with a valid driving licence.
