Job Description

Overview The Office Registered Nurse (RN) appropriately cares for patients of all ages; assists providers in procedures; accesses appropriate reference/resource manuals as needed; accurately documents all patient care interactions; and provides clinical and administrative support to providers, and other healthcare professionals. Demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. Responsibilities Patient Assessment Triages patients, answers patient phone calls and provides appropriate information and/or directs calls to appropriate provider/staff members. Obtains reason for patient visit and takes appropriate vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration). Assists provider with procedures during exams, minor surgeries, and treatments. Perform basic diagnostic tests as directed by provider and completes controls as required by regulatory agencies. Manage wound care and dressings. Coordinates x-rays, ultrasounds, labs, EKG's, OR scheduling, (pre-certs or authorizations,) etc., per physician standing order. Properly administers medications, injections, and immunizations as prescribed. Provides patient information regarding drug interactions. Follows regulations regarding narcotic storage and maintains medical inventory log. Accurately recording patient information, assessments, care plans, and Chronic Disease Management & Education Assist patients in appropriate self-care techniques, providing pamphlets and instructions. Addresses patient questions and concerns following clinical protocols. Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the physician. Provide patient education on medications, treatments, and follow-up care. Support chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) Cross Departmental Work with Practice Manager in developing clinical protocols for practice. Assists Practice Manager with staff training and orientation. Work independently or in collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members. Maintains confidentiality of patient information according to established practice policies and government regulations, such as HIPAA. Maintains professional competency through ongoing training and continuing education. Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and continuing education activities as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned and/or vary based on medical specialty. Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited school. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. BLS certification required, ACLS if required by specialty. Two (2) years' experience in nursing required. Experience in care management, case management, chronic disease or occupational health preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of medication side effects and how to effectively communicate to patients. Knowledge in the specialty of the practice for position. Knowledge of proper "release of information" standards. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Computer literate and must be able to work with an EMR system while providing patient care. Ability to properly obtain/perform the following as needed (E.K.G., A.E.D., Tympanometry, BLS/CPR, TB testing, Venipuncture technique, Waived lab testing, Specimen collections, Vision testing, Patient education, Vital signs) Ability to remain calm in stressful/difficult situations. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to properly administer medications, including proper dosage, proper site and proper schedule.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Constant handling, feeling, talking, hearing and near vision. Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs. Frequent standing, walking, twisting, reaching, midrange vision, depth perception, color vision and field of vision. Occasional lifting up to 100 or more lbs. Occasional sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, tasting/smelling and far vision.
