In this vital role, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care to less acute settings, ensuring smooth recovery trajectories. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that values your skills and dedication. As a Travel PCU Nurse, you will bring energy, compassion, and precision to every patient interaction, supporting diverse medical needs across various specialties including cardiology, neurology, and post-operative care. Duties Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in the progressive care setting, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and managing complex treatment plans. Perform detailed patient assessments and develop individualized care plans aligned with physician orders and best practices. Utilize advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document patient information accurately and efficiently. Assist with diagnostic procedures like cardiac catheterization, CT scans, or laboratory specimen collection while maintaining strict infection control protocols. Manage acute pain through medication administration and non-pharmacologic interventions, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Provide education to patients and their families about post-discharge care, medication management, and lifestyle modifications. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, therapists, and case managers to coordinate seamless patient transitions across care settings such as hospice & palliative medicine or long-term care facilities. Requirements Valid nursing license (RN) with current state licensure or eligibility for licensure in the assigned location. Proven critical care experience in settings such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers; experience with Level II trauma centers is highly desirable. Strong proficiency in EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner; familiarity with
ICD-10/ICD-9
coding is preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform complex procedures including IV infusion, suturing, catheterization (including urinary and vascular), tube feeding management, and aseptic technique. Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs. Knowledge of infection control standards, HIPAA regulations, and trauma medicine protocols. Additional skills such as telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, dialysis support, or ostomy care are advantageous. Excellent assessment skills with a focus on physiology knowledge and medical terminology expertise; ability to perform physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations confidently.
