Job Summary:
Perform any variety of public health, home visits, clinic nursing activities related to harm reduction; and to perform related work as required. This position will also include case management of those with Hepatitis C or HIV. An employee in this position must be able to work independently, and must have empathy for those with substance use disorders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide professional nursing care to clients on the harm reduction van and/or in clinic including: o Performs point of care testing (the syphilis, HIV, and hep C.
) o Administer tuberculin tests and/or immunizations in clinic, home, school, or congregate living facility o Dispense medications and/or vaccines as directed by Medical Director or attending physician. o Ensures the safe and accurate collection, labeling, and delivery of specimens. o Identifies the health status of assigned clients including physical, social and emotional needs. Identifies and evaluates patient and family learning needs, ability and readiness to learn and documents appropriately o Confers with other disciplines, coordinates client care and team function, and refers to community resources according to prioritized needs.
- Participates in: o Staff meetings. o Weekend and evening work, as needed, for client services. o Conferences and other events, both as attendee and presenter.
- Collects and maintains accurate data, meets deadlines for reporting requirements.
- Implements Universal Precautions, infection control and isolation procedures when appropriate.
- Responds with professional judgment in emergency situations and in accordance with policy.
- Maintenance of Harm Reduction vehicle, including oil changes and cleaning.
- Stocks Harm Reduction vehicle, notifies appropriate staff of needed supplies for purchasing.
- Seeks out opportunities for community engagement at events and other appropriate venues with approval from supervisor.
- All other duties as assigned.

Provides assistance when seeing another in need. Contributes to the team effort of providing superior customer service to enhance the image of the Health Department. Refrains from holding negative conversations about duties, assignments, co-workers and clients. Responsible for promoting and securing potential clients and referrals. Employment Qualifications Education:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; Current State of Michigan nursing licensure, or eligibility for licensure with application for temporary license; Public Health nursing experience; ANA CHN Certification preferred, but not required.
Experience:
Two-years experience providing community health, pediatric, and/or maternal infant nursing service.
Other Requirements:
Current CPR certification.
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license, auto insurance, and ability to provide own transportation. Strong interest and comfort level working with pregnant women, infants and children to improve maternal infant health outcomes.
