Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District Job Posting Internal/External The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500. The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a .2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employees/contractors providing services to our local districts and students. The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.
Purpose of Position:
The Regional School Mental Health Nurse will provide coordinated nursing support for mental health across the tri-county region of Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac counties. The position focuses on suicide prevention, crisis response, trauma-informed systems, and intensive case management for students with the highest mental health needs. This role supports individual student crises through Emergency Student Assistance Teams and school-community trauma response using established crisis response frameworks.
Period of Employment:
7 hours per day, 190 days per year
Minimum Qualifications:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure approved by the State of Michigan Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Knowledge of and adherence to
FERPA, HIPAA
(as applicable), and District confidentiality policies Experience in school nursing, public health, pediatric, or mental health nursing preferred Experience or training in crisis intervention and suicide prevention preferred Strong organizational and time management skills, written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, diligent work habits, and the ability to apply sound judgment to routine decision-making Ability to maintain self-control and complete tasks with frequent interruptions in high-stress situations Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment Must have regular and reliable attendance Ability to carry and move heavy objects and lift 40 lbs Ability to travel within the tri-county service area; possess a valid driver's license
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and supportEmergency Student Assistance Teams (ESATs) for students experiencing mental health emergencies, including suicide risk, across Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac counties Serve as a nursing and mental health consultant to school teams during student crisis identification, response, and follow-up Provide coordination and support for the ISD regional school crisis teams responding to building-level or community-wide traumatic events Support schools in crisis preparedness, response, and recovery using trauma-informed practices aligned with the NASP PREPaRE model Provide intensive case management for students with the highest mental health needs, ensuring continuity and coordination of care Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among schools, families, community mental health agencies, and medical providers Support transition planning for students returning to school following hospitalization or emergency mental health intervention Assist school personnel in navigating referrals, community resources, and coordination of mental health services Maintain thorough and accurate documentation related to crisis response, case management, and student services, in accordance with district, state, and professional standards Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide consultation to administrators, educators, and support staff Upon request, provide professional learning and consultative services to local educational staff Exhibit a high level of professionalism with the ability to handle confidential information, use good judgment, plan and maintain a flexible attitude As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times Other duties as may be assigned by the

  • 85,000 dependent upon education, experience, and certification(s).
