Full Job Description Position Title:
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)
Employee Status :
PAVSA Employee - Casual Under the supervision of the SANE Program Nurse Manager and SANE Program Coordinator Perform forensic medical exams with patients (13 and older) who have experienced sexual violence within the last fourteen days, includes offering STI and pregnancy prevention medications, head to toe exam, photography, anogenital exam, and evidence collection. (40%) Document the patient's responses to examination questions in the Forensic electronic Medical Record (FeMR). (45%) Attend mandatory monthly team meetings on the first Tuesday of the month from 9am-12pm. (10%) Perform other related duties as required (5%) Perform forensic medical exams with patients (13 and older) who have experienced sexual violence within the last fourteen days, includes offering STI and pregnancy prevention medications, head to toe exam, photography, anogenital exam, and evidence collection. (40%) Respond to four local hospitals: Essentia Health/St. Mary's Medical Center of Duluth, Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital of Duluth, Aspirus Lake View Hospital of Two Harbors, Essentia Health/St. Mary's Hospital of Superior Discuss law enforcement reporting options available to patients based on their experience Work in collaboration with victim advocate, emergency department staff, and law enforcement Perform pelvic and anogenital exams (orientation includes a Gyn preceptorship) Perform evidence collection with patient consent using evidence kits provided by state crimes labs. Complete all paperwork associated with kits Maintain chain of custody on all evidence collected and follow procedure for securing evidence Provide trauma-informed, patient-centered care to victim-survivors of sexual violence Document the patient's responses to examination questions in the Forensic electronic Medical Record (FeMR). (45%) Complete patient record in FeMR for each SANE patient. Includes questions regarding demographic information, medical history, safety screening, description of the assault, pre and post assault related history, acts as described by patient, strangulation assessment, documentation of injury through body diagrams and photography Complete the discharge instructions that provide medication information and follow up care recommendations Attend mandatory monthly team meetings on the first Tuesday of the month from 9am-12pm. (10%) Participate in monthly team meetings which include education, program updates, skills practice, and case review Meetings are held in-person at PAVSA's Office at 32 E 1st Street, Suite 200, Duluth, MN 55802 Perform other related duties as required (5%) Submit on-call availability on a monthly basis Prep for and appear to testify in compliance with subpoenas for all exams performed while employed with the

Program Participate in staff-wide training when indicated Participate in community education opportunities based on interest and availability Participate in PAVSA awareness and community events based on interest and availability Maintain vaccinations as required by partner medical facilities Compensation $400/exam $90 Stipend for mandatory monthly team meetings $30/hour for mandatory skills training and hospital orientation $9.39/hour on-call pay (when active SANE) On-call time is unpaid during orientation Qualifications Registered Nurse with current Minnesota license and the ability to become licensed in Wisconsin Completion of the 41-hour Adolescent/Adult IAFN approved Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) didactic training (connection to free training opportunities can be made) Ability to work autonomously Strong clinical skills Exemplary written and verbal communication skills Sensitivity in working with victim-survivors of sexual assault Desired Qualifications 1 year experience as an RN and/or a prior SANE position Preference to RN working 0.7 or less FTE at primary job Completion of IAFN approved Clinical Skills Lab Hours & On-Call Expectations 60 hours per month on-call Requirement of one holiday shift per year Carry a cell phone while on-call Immediate response to calls and texts while on-call Access to reliable transportation 45-minute response time to hospital Memberships & Benefits IAFN Membership (International, MN, and WI Chapters) $1000/year of Education Funds after 6 months of employment
