The Surgical and Procedural Educator RN is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating education and professional development programs that support safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care across surgical and procedural settings. This role partners closely with nursing leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to support onboarding, competency validation, ongoing education, and continuous improvement while advancing patient•and family-centered care. RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, implement, and evaluate orientation, onboarding, and ongoing education programs for surgical and procedural staff
Apply adult learning theory and evidence-based educational practices to support staff competency and professional growth
Serve as a clinical and educational resource for perioperative and procedural nursing practice
Assess learning needs using quality data, regulatory requirements, and operational priorities
Develop and maintain competency tools, education materials, and learning documentation
Support novice-to-expert development, remediation plans, and role-specific competencies
Collaborate with nursing leaders, physicians, and interdisciplinary partners to support quality, safety, and efficiency initiatives
Integrate evidence-based practice, research, and patient•and family-centered care principles into education programs
Support regulatory readiness, accreditation standards, and organizational policies
Utilize technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes
articipate in projects and initiatives that advance professional nursing practice and patient care
Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Minnesota QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program
Master's degree in nursing, Education, or a related field required, or active enrollment in a master's program with completion within 5 years
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of recent acute care, surgical, or procedural nursing experience
Demonstrated experience in staff education, precepting, clinical instruction, or professional development•OR•An approved equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in nursing or a related field
Certification such as NPD-BC, CNOR, or other relevant specialtyvcertification
Experience in a Level I trauma center or complex surgical environment
Experience supporting regulatory, accreditation, or quality improvement initiatives Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
Strong knowledge of perioperative and/or procedural nursing practice
Proven curriculum development, facilitation, and presentation skills
Excellent communication, consultation, and collaboration abilities
Ability to evaluate education outcomes and apply data to improve learning effectiveness
Strong organizational and project management skills
