n/a Job Summary The Nursing Services Summer Intern will split time between a variety of departments. The position will provide assistance with administrative tasks and projects, cleaning of equipment, stocking of supplies, project work and transportation of items between departments. This is a non-patient care position but may engage patients in conversations for comfort or play games/activities as needed. The Nursing Services Summer Intern is expected to complete the observations in other areas not regularly assigned (OR, Birth Center c-sections, House Supervisor, Supply Chain, CCIC, CNE and other areas of interest to the Summer Intern). This internship is available as part of the Summer Health Care Internship Program (SHCIP), which is administered by the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) on behalf of the Minnesota Department of Health. If you are going to college for healthcare, or are in high school and considering going to college to work in the healthcare industry, this is a great way to learn more about opportunities in this field. • In your cover letter, please include what you hope to gain from the internship experience. Compensation We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Compensation may be determined based on a combination of experience, education, qualifications, internal equity, and market data for comparable positions. This position offers a flat rate of $16.00 per hour. Key Accountabilities Stocking of supplies Stock IV carts Make IV kits Fold PPE gowns/linen. Check for outdated supplies and for low levels of supplies. Transporting Bring specimens to the lab. Bring items to other units as needed. Cleaning Pull empty bins from the storage room and place them in the large bin or pull Kanban card from bin and place in the bin hopper in the storage room depending on the department. Room turnover Clean wheelchairs Clean carts / Beds Bring dirty dishes to the kitchen. Nutritional Support Assist in providing water to patients. Make toast and bring nutritional items to patients. Nutritional support as requested. Patient Comfort Engage patients in conversations for comfort. Play games/activities with patients. Read to patients. Bring the Concierge Cart services to our patients. Patient Care Assist with transferring patients Vital Signs 1:1 Sitter EKG Bladder scanning Project work / Administrative tasks Projects and audits as assigned. Prepare admission information / packets. Assist with answering phone calls. Other administrative tasks projects as directed. Qualifications Current post-secondary student enrolled in a Minnesota educational institution, or a Minnesota resident enrolled in an out-of-state program. Post-secondary students must be enrolled (but not graduating this year) in a two or four-year health care degree program with the intention of completing the program. Or will have completed senior year of High School this school year with the intention to complete graduation requirements. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Solid attention to detail, organizational skills, flexibility, and customer service. CPI training within the first month Safe Patient Handling within the first month 1:1 Sitter competency in orientation EKG competency in orientation Vital Signs competency in orientation Bladder scanning competency in orientation Workplace Violence Initial training and then annually Preferred Qualifications Skills in Microsoft programs include
Word and Excel:
Outlook and PowerPoint are preferred. Ability to take ownership of projects, follow instruction, and work independently or with minimal supervision.
Schedule Monday-Friday:
8:00am-4:30pm This internship will not start before Memorial Day and will not last past Labor Day. There is some flexibility in start and end date.
