Exempt Summary The Nursing Coordinator (Lead Nurse) provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of the district's school health services program. This role ensures that nursing services are delivered consistently, safely, and in compliance with all state and federal requirements. The Nursing Coordinator supports nursing staff, manages daily health operations, and collaborates with administrators, staff, families, and community partners to promote student health and remove barriers to learning. The position requires strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to respond effectively to both individual student needs and system-wide demands. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee and coordinate daily nursing operations across all district buildings. Coordinate nursing staff assignments, substitute coverage, and float support to ensure continuity of care. Manage procurement, inventory, storage, and distribution of health room supplies and equipment. Develop and support implementation of Individual Health Care Plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans. Participate in 504 meetings and support IEP processes as appropriate. Assist with management of students with chronic or complex medical conditions. Ensure compliance with district policies as well as state and federal health regulations. Ensure completion and submission of all required state reporting. Coordinate and oversee clinical programs, including: Vaccination clinics Health screenings Dental clinics and community-based services Coordinate medication-related processes in collaboration with families, providers, and pharmacies. Provide or coordinate CPR and required health training opportunities for district staff. Support and guide nursing staff through ongoing communication, problem-solving, and professional collaboration. Coordinate with building leaders to implement and oversee an annual evaluation of district nursing services to support continuous improvement. Plan and coordinate professional development and training for nursing personnel. Communicate with local, regional, and state health agencies to support compliance and program improvement. Serve as liaison between the district and healthcare providers, medical partners, and community organizations. Attend regional and state meetings to remain current on health practices, regulations, and trends. Promote a safe, organized, and student-centered health services environment in all buildings. Collaborate with district leadership to develop, revise, and implement health-related policies and procedures. Support district response to student health emergencies and crisis situations. Maintain confidentiality and uphold all district policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned related to student health services and district nursing operations. Qualifications Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri. Current CPR certification. Minimum of three years of healthcare or school nursing experience preferred. Skills and Abilities Knowledge of school health practices, student health needs, and regulatory requirements. Ability to coordinate and manage multiple responsibilities across buildings. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to support and guide staff in clinical and operational practices. Strong communication and collaboration skills with staff, families, and community partners. Ability to maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with reporting requirements. Ability to build positive, professional relationships with staff and stakeholders. Physical Demands Active work environment requiring standing, walking, and movement between buildings. May require lifting, assisting students, and responding to student health situations. Requires attentiveness and responsiveness in both routine and emergency situations. Attendance Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Conditions and Environment The Nursing Coordinator works across multiple school settings and interacts frequently with students, staff, families, and community partners. The role requires adaptability in a fast-paced environment with both routine responsibilities and urgent student health needs. Maintains organized systems, ensures safe health room environments, and supports consistent procedures across all buildings.
