Job Description

SUMMARY:
Responsible for all duties in which a registered nurse would serve and as such needs arise. Works closely with the psychiatrist(s) in fulfilling these particular functions. Receives moderate supervision from department head and has contact with pharmacies, labs, and medical facilities outside the organization. This position involves working closely with patients in crisis situations, utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques and interventions to promote recovery and stability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinate medical needs of clients with psychiatrist
EXAMPLES OF WORK
(Any one (1) position of this class may not include all duties listed, nor do listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class). Provides crisis intervention techniques and support for individuals experiencing acute mental health issues. Assist with medications and review medications when needed. Observe and report any inappropriate behavior to Psychiatrist as soon as possible. Assist LPN's in all medical procedures that they are allowed to perform in administrative office to allow for continued care of clients, according to procedures. Work closely with psychiatrist to ensure that client is fully educated and aware of all information pertaining to use of medication. Assure that client has adequate medication. Reschedule appointment if necessary. Safe keeping of sample medication. Prepare applications and letters to companies for patient assistance program for clients who have no insurance and cannot afford medication. Maintain appropriate direct service time set by the agency to guarantee the services are provided both efficiently and cost effectively. Administer injections as prescribed by psychiatrist and observe for side effects. Encourage compliance in client. Maintain injection schedule to follow clients as ordered and monitor/reschedule any missed injections. Educate clients on health issues and recommend and schedule clients with their LMD for physical problems as necessary. Schedule clients with psychiatrist. Maintain psychiatrist's schedule. List all medication on "Drug Profile Sheet" and update as medication changes occur. Serve as liaison for psychiatrist with pharmacist when needed. Serve, as liaison to staff when needed. Assure that letters, reports and other necessary information is in order and sent in a timely fashion. Schedule appointments for pharmaceutical representatives. Educate staff on clients' health issues, if needed. Consultant regarding medication education; make recommendations as necessary. Liaison to psychiatrist or other doctors as needed. Serve as team member for recommendations; assist with planning and be informed of program changes and needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year or more of psychiatric experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

RN license
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
